Affordable Apartments Ease Housing Strain Amidst Rising Cost of Living in Vancouver

by:
Vancouver, WA – Apartment seekers can now apply for residency at Columbia Gardens, a newly constructed affordable housing community off Northeast 112th Avenue. The community has 42 two-bedroom, 51 three-bedroom, and 30 four-bedroom apartments designed to be affordable for those who make at or less than 60% of the area median income. The first apartments will be ready in late 2022.

Columbia Gardens is part of the Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program which enables developer, Cascade Affordable Housing Consultants and management company, Cambridge Management, Inc. to provide brand new apartments at affordable rates set by the Vancouver Housing Authority. These apartments come at a time when the cost of living is higher than ever.

Minimum wage workers in Clark County must work 86 hours per week to afford a fair market rent of $1,536 for a two-bedroom apartment according to the National Low Income Housing Coalition (NLIHC).

Housing cost isn’t the only area where Clark County renters feel the strain. Gas is over $5.50 per gallon in Vancouver–above the Washington State average and well above the national average of $4.86, according to AAA.

Affordable housing options like Columbia Gardens make these numbers more realistic for renters. Most two-bedrooms at Columbia Gardens lease for $1,135 per month–a $401 savings over fair market rent for those who qualify.

“We’re thrilled to be able to offer this brand-new housing to Vancouver renters with limited incomes,” said Trisha McClellan, director of property management at Cambridge Management, Inc. “Everyone deserves to have stable, quality housing that doesn’t break the bank.”

Residents at Columbia Gardens will enjoy a brand-new playground, community room, and computer lab. Prospective residents can learn more and submit a contact card to be prequalified at www.columbiagardensvancouver.com.

Columbia Gardens joins The Grand Pacific, at 2900 East 16th Street, as Cambridge Management, Inc.’s second affordable housing community in the area.
